AVM Mikail Abdulraheem and the Renewed Transformation of the Military Pensions Board.

Leaders Mail Magazine Spotlights the Renewed Transformation of the Military Pensions Board Under AVM Mikail Abdulraheem
A special feature in Leaders Mail Magazine has put the spotlight on the reforms taking place at the Military Pensions Board (MPB) under its Chairman, Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem, who assumed office on 1 December 2025.
The feature highlights a leadership approach built on efficiency, transparency, accountability and compassionate service, with pensioners at the centre of every decision.
A Leader With Military and Financial Experience
AVM Abdulraheem is a member of the 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Accounting, and a Master’s in Security Management Studies. He is a graduate of the National Defence College, Bangladesh, and has attended executive programmes at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
His career spans command, administrative and financial roles, including Managing Director of Nigerian Air Force Properties Limited and senior financial positions at the Defence Intelligence Agency and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Key Priorities of the Reform Agenda
Digital transformation: stronger ICT systems, digital records and computerised workflows to reduce paperwork and improve accuracy.
Faster processing and verification: streamlined procedures, plus physical, biometric and digital verification, including options that ease the burden on elderly pensioners and those in remote areas.
Records and financial accountability: record reconciliation, resolution of legacy cases and stronger internal controls to protect public funds.
Pensioner welfare: improved customer service, clearer communication and responsive complaint resolution for retirees, widows, dependants and next of kin.
Staff development: training in pension administration, ICT, records management and customer service.
Workforce welfare: newly built staff quarters at the MPB Headquarters and newly acquired buses for personnel transportation.
Strategic Partnerships
The Chairman has also pursued closer collaboration with key institutions, including courtesy visits to the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Budget Office of the Federation. The Board also works with Defence Headquarters, PTAD, PenCom, NIMC, financial institutions, military formations and veterans’ associations.
Honouring Those Who Served
The feature also notes the Chairman’s visit to veterans, including the orderly to the late General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, as a tribute to distinguished service.
The central message is that those who served the nation deserve an institution that serves them well in retirement.
