Recognizing the urgency of the security situation in the country, President Tinubu has made the fight against insecurity a top priority of his administration, as outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda. Comprehensive strategies are being implemented to address the root causes of insecurity and ensure a safer, more secure Nigeria.
These strategies encompass not only kinetic approaches but also non-kinetic measures, aiming to quell immediate threats and create an environment where citizens can live without fear. Investments in the modernization and equipping of security forces, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement are key components of this commitment.
For instance, the Nigerian Air Force recently took delivery of four new aircraft to strengthen the fight against banditry and terrorism. To demonstrate his commitment to tackling insecurity, the lion’s share of last year’s supplementary budget of N2.17 trillion was allocated to security, and a sizeable portion of the 2024 budget is also dedicated to this sector.
Evidence from various reports indicates that Nigeria is making significant strides in the war against terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and other forms of criminality. In the South-East Region, the operational capacity of IPOB and the Eastern Security Network has been significantly degraded, leading to a stabilization of the area.
In the North-East and North-West regions, the Nigerian Air Force has been actively conducting successful airstrikes on bandits’ and terrorists’ camps and hideouts in Katsina, Zamfara, and Borno States. In the maritime environment, on October 25, the Eastern and Central Naval Commands launched a joint sea exercise, Exercise SEA GUARDIAN 2023, which has proven to be very successful.
This exercise highlights the government’s commitment to securing Nigeria’s waterways against piracy and other maritime threats. Overall, President Tinubu’s administration is implementing a multi-faceted approach to security, combining military might with strategic investments and comprehensive planning.
This approach aims to create a stable and secure environment for all Nigerians, reflecting the administration’s dedication to restoring peace and order across the nation. The President couldn’t have achieved all the above alone without the help of capable men and women he put together as a team in different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
